Leadership Summit 2011 | Howard Schultz – CANCELED

Posted on August 11, 2011

“While we are a coffee company at heart, Starbucks provides much more than the best cup of coffee – we offer a community gathering place where people come together to connect and discover new things.”

This session has been canceled due to a petition. See Christianity Today’s article, WGNtv.com, change.org,

First, Willow decided to let Howard out of the contract without consequence. Second, write an email (found at Starbucks.com) with good Christian love. Third, pray for Bill & Jim (Mellado), as they attempt to meet with the people who started the boycott.

Here is the actual petition verbiage:

Denounce the Anti-Gay Views of Willow Creek Community Church

Dear Starbucks and Mr. Schultz,

As a long time customer of Starbucks I have always appreciated the efforts the company has made to be inclusive. However the decision to have Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz speak at Willow Creek Community Church, despite their long anti-gay history, is unacceptable to me.

The church has long practiced dangerous conversion therapy to “cure” people of their sexual orientation. Practices like this have been condemned by the broader medical and psychological community and has no place in society today.

If Starbucks wishes to remain an example of an inclusive company and wants to keep my business, I ask that you, at the very least, issue an immediate statement denouncing the church’s anti-gay practices and beliefs.

Not denouncing these practices is tacit approval.
